Designing with a clear mind and stability.
Having mental resilience
·
I think one of the most important things when it comes to designing is having a clear mental state of mind. Without a clear state of mind how can you be fully creative, solve problems and achieve your potential?
If you’re too busy worrying about all the problems on your mind you’ll never be able to do your best work, especially as a designer.
Personally, whenever I've had a lot on my mind, I’ve never been able to deliver my best work, or it’ll take me a lot longer, to think through problems and solutions. Also, a lot of stress can have really bad long term health affects, so be careful.
Don’t ever underestimate the value of stability in a job. In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, safety is one of the baseline needs for motivation, having a secure job and paycheck can really pay dividends to having a clear state of mind, and it’s often overlooked. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
It’s hard to have a clear state of mind, it’s very unrealistic when we’re so consumed in a digital world. That’s why it’s important to learn how to learn to zone in and out.
Making time for exercise has been game changing for me. We all have 24 hours in a day, it’s about aligning your priorities. The help endorphins can bring to give you a clearer state of mind through exercise is gold. Whether it’s going for a walk, a run or going to the gym, do what you enjoy and what works for you.
